Are you too busy to do anything?

How many times do you hear yourself say it. “I’m too busy to do anything.” Have you ever thought about what that means -- literally? If you’re too busy to do anything, then what are you busy doing?

As another year draws to a close, it’s an ideal time to think back on all the things you accomplished, and on all the things you hoped to accomplish but didn’t. Where did all the time go? Every day you wake up with a full day ahead of you, with plenty of time to work toward your goals. Then at the end of the day you often feel that you haven’t gotten any closer. What happened?

Chances are, you were too busy. Being busy does not get anything done. Being busy just uses time. Take a look at how you spend your time. Ask yourself why you’re doing the things you do. Ask yourself if what you’re doing is moving you in the direction of your goals. Look at your activities with the goal of making the best use of your time. Learn to say no to activities that just keep you busy but don’t help you to accomplish anything.

Attitude can play a big part. If you take the attitude that you’re trying to “just get through the day” that’s exactly what you’ll do -- just get through the day. When you adopt the mindset of “let’s see how much I can accomplish today” then you’ll likely get a lot more done.
