Big world

The events that make it into your awareness are a tiny fraction of everything that happens. It’s a big world, with unimaginable levels of activity.

Somewhere right now, snow is blanketing a mountaintop. In other places, ocean waves are washing up on tropical beaches.

Crops are growing in green fields bathed in sunshine. Raccoons are hunting for food in the darkness.

Children play tag, people cook dinner, college students sip coffee, swimmers compete in races. Mothers cradle their babies, brothers tease their sisters, the sky puts on a magnificent show as the sun sinks below the horizon.

All this is going on all the time, and has been for longer than anyone can remember. Pretty much none of it makes the news, yet all of it and a whole lot more combine to make life what it is.

Every now and then it pays to put what you see and what you hear about into context. There’s a whole world, indeed a whole universe out there, with countless things going on, and even more great possibilities.
