The real test in golf and in life is not in keeping out of the rough, but in getting out after you are in.

Think enough

Think enough, but not too much. Don’t let your thoughts become a substitute for action, for experience, for living.

Thought is powerful, infinitely useful, and intoxicating. Make good use of it, and be careful.

Keep yourself well grounded in the aspects of reality that exist apart from your thoughts. Your thoughts are yours to apply, not to inhabit to the exclusion of all else.

When you get the feeling you’re too much in your head, you are. Get out, walk your dog, pull some weeds, play with your children.

Before your thoughts pile too high on top of each other, challenge them in the real world. Refine your thoughts through the filters of action and interaction rather than leaving them to run wild on their own.

Base your thoughts not just on themselves but on what you do, and sense, and feel. The power of thought is greatest when it’s well integrated with the whole of your existence.
