Address the cause

The most powerful way to solve a problem is not to direct an attack against the problem. The way to solve a problem is to address the cause of the problem.

If you are sleeping too late in the morning the best solution is not to force yourself awake earlier. The best solution is to go to bed earlier.

Very often what appears to be a problem is merely a symptom. When you attempt to get rid of the symptom without tending to the cause, that results in a bigger disruption.

Anything that’s troubling you has a distinct cause. Though it is natural to focus on the trouble, you’ll be much more successful when you focus on the cause.

The deeper you can get into eliminating the cause, the better. Yes, that’s difficult work, and it provides correspondingly valuable rewards.

When you hear yourself complaining about a problem, take it as a cue to look for the cause. Give yourself the power to correct the situation once and for all.
