Get it done

It sounds so simple and easy. You set a goal, you do the work, and you reach that goal. Then you move on to a bigger goal.

But of course it is not that simple, not that easy. Life gets in the way. All sorts of things happen that you didn’t anticipate. On top of that, you get in your own way. The passion you felt at first may not be sufficient to keep you going. You get pulled away by different thoughts, different feelings, different priorities. Plus, the work is difficult. It demands much from you in terms of time, effort and commitment. It gets complicated and confuses you. It becomes tedious and frustrating, causing you to question why you ever chose the goal in the first place.

And then there’s the issue of comfort. Anything you do to make an improvement in your life and your world is going to be uncomfortable. It’s going to take you into unfamiliar territory. Even if it’s something wonderful and valuable, that discomfort is very much present. The old way things used to be is constantly tempting you to come back into its familiar and comfortable refuge.

So how do you get beyond all that? How do you achieve in a world that doesn’t seem to care, that’s bursting with distractions and interruptions, when at times you’re not even sure of your own intentions?

You start by making certain your goal is well fortified. That means making a solid connection between the goal that you’ve expressed in terms of objective reality and the deepest sense of purpose within you, a purpose that you can always feel but never fully express in words. You have to know why. More than that, you have to feel why. And it has to be your very own why. It cannot be borrowed from or dependent upon anyone else.
