Ability to figure it out

Dive deep enough into complexity, and you find simplicity. The difference between those who understand what’s complicated and those who don’t, is persistence.

Don’t be afraid to ask what might feel like stupid questions. The most basic questions are actually the smartest, because their answers pave the way for many more insights.

If you’re struggling with a complicated task or concept, break it down into smaller and smaller components. Build your understanding, practice applying it, then slowly, steadily add to it.

Everything you now can master, you once had trouble grasping. You started with the basics, you persisted, and you deepened your understanding over time.

Like every other thing of value, understanding takes time and commitment. It is well worth the effort, because once you have it, understanding stays with you and you can build even more understanding on top of it.

If you’re continually frustrated by what feels unfathomable, do the work to understand. When it matters enough, you have the remarkable ability to figure it out.
