Focus of attention

by Ralph Marston

You have plenty of potential energy. But that energy can often be blocked due to where your attention is focused.

A sudden interruption will steal energy away from more productive pursuits. A continuing distraction can do the same thing.

Fortunately, you have a great degree of control over where your attention is focused. When it veers off track, take corrective action.

It’s extremely useful to notice changes in your environment. Most of the time, however, those changes don’t warrant an extended diversion of your attention.

Yes, keep up with what’s happening and respond if necessary. At the same time make it your priority to keep your attention focused in ways that convert energy into meaningful value.

Guard against your energy being blocked by the empty noise that often surrounds you. Seek always to continue thinking and acting in the direction you’ve chosen.
