Spice it up

Merely meeting expectations is not enough. But failing to do so is even worse.

The key is to exceed expectations. Surprise people on the upside.

Do what you’re expected to do. And see if you can add a little twist that’s unexpected in a good way.

As valuable as reliability is, it can also get boring for you and everyone else. Get creative, maintain the reliability while at the same time spicing it up.

Novelty simply for novelty’s sake ends up being silly and superficial. Yet novelty within the context of a larger, more serious purpose makes the whole endeavor refreshing and sustaining.

Do what you do, for the good reasons you do it, with discipline, with consistency. And throw in plenty of fresh originality as a potent reminder of how great it is to be alive.
