This thing we call "failure" is not the falling down, but the staying down.

Live with discipline

by Ralph Marston

The best kind of discipline is self discipline. Be proactive, embrace it when you have the opportunity.

Discipline imposed from the outside can indeed add value to your life. But it can also be arbitrary, incongruent, and not well suited to your needs.

If you decline to discipline yourself, discipline eventually catches up to you. But though such discipline is necessary and probably beneficial, you won’t like it.

Before that happens, take the initiative to live with discipline on your own terms, and remain committed to doing so. That puts you firmly in control.

With self discipline, you get to decide the objective and the methods of that discipline. You have more flexibility and a greater understanding of why you must do what you must do.

Reality always asserts itself, and discipline is not optional. Get out in front of it and choose to firmly discipline yourself, because that’s always what will bring the best results.
