Let yourself feel

by Ralph Marston

Feelings can be complicated, contradictory, inconvenient, sometimes even temporarily debilitating. Yet despite their many difficulties, feelings enable you to experience who you truly are.

There are all sorts of ways to evade, avoid, deny, postpone, and suppress your feelings. But rather than going through all that, it’s usually best to go ahead and let yourself feel.

You may not like what a particular feeling has to show you. Even so, there’s undeniable truth in each feeling, and you’ll build strength by acknowledging it.

Feelings might seem overwhelming in the moment. Nonetheless, you’ve moved beyond every feeling you’ve ever had, and can do so again.

The feelings you love, the ones you despise, and all those in between, arise because you care. And it’s a good, empowering thing to care.

Let yourself continue to care. And let your authentic feelings continue to enrich your life.
