The test of courage comes when we are in the minority. The test of tolerance comes when we are in the majority.

Happy Birthday USA

by Ralph Marston

Two hundred and fifty years ago, The United States began as a vision. Liberty, combined with discipline, self reliance, respect for every individual and for the difficult truths of reality, continue today to fulfill that vision.

Though this country has never been perfect, it is arguably the most desirable place to live and prosper that has ever existed. Over its history, the USA has outpaced every other country, by a factor of five or more, in the number of people voting with their feet to migrate here.

It is a deeply-rooted, ongoing testament to the values expressed in that original vision, and to the success with which they have endured. Though many aspects of the world have changed dramatically, the promise of America continues to shine.

The challenges of fulfilling that promise have been embraced and conquered by people from every background. For those willing to put forth honest effort, to create value, to live with integrity and respect for others, there is no better place to be.

All sorts of different systems sound good conceptually but fall short when actually implemented. In contrast, The United States of America has proven itself time and time again in the often brutal realm of reality.

Priorities, issues, leaders, ideas, and fashions come and go. Yet the vision and spirit of 1776 have continued to deliver, and that’s a great thing to celebrate today.
