Most effective way

by Ralph Marston

Take an interest in the wider world, learn from what goes on there, find inspiration in it. At the same time, be realistic about the limits of your ability to influence it.

Your most meaningful positive impacts are likely to be upon situations close at hand. Before setting off to save the faraway corners of the world, work to the benefit of what’s in your vicinity.

Advocating for big issues can make you feel important. Yet what matters even more is actually being an important positive presence.

Almost always, that’s a matter of helping with people and circumstances nearby. Rather than striving to be trendy in what you care about, seek to be a beneficial influence on the lives of those around you.

Those distant, abstract issues may be very real and pressing, yet you’re not well positioned to address them. Instead of becoming mired in frustration because of that, get yourself involved in matters where you’re able to offer your best.

There’s always much you can do, right where you are, with what you have, with what you know. Make it your business to make a difference in the most effective way you can.
