When it comes to getting things done, we need fewer architects and more bricklayers.

Temporary interruption

by Ralph Marston

Making a wrong turn is not a good reason to continue making wrong turns. Turn around quickly, get back on track.

Sometimes when you’ve been focused and disciplined, and making good progress, you experience a moment of weakness. It can cause things to slide backwards a bit.

When that happens, it can be tempting to just give in to that weakness, to let the slide continue for a while. After all, you tell yourself, you’ve earned it.

But the best strategy is to stop the slide the moment you realize you’re in it. Rather than giving in to further temptation, apply all your energy toward getting back on track.

You’ve worked hard to get this far. Don’t let a temporary interruption turn into a permanent failure.

You were disciplined before, and you can quickly regain that discipline. Make the choice to do so, and soon you’ll be further ahead than ever before.
