Steady efforts

by Ralph Marston

Steady efforts bring steady progress. Yet the progress is rarely as consistently steady on a day-to-day basis as the efforts must be.

On some days the results will be more than sufficient to motivate you further. Many other days, though, will require some faith on your part.

You understand intellectually that the reliable, focused work you do is sure to bring valuable rewards. The problem is, sometimes those rewards don’t appear as quickly or reliably as you’d like.

When that happens, it helps to extend your time horizon. While you may not have noticed any progress in the last few days, you’ve likely had some wins over the previous months.

Look far enough back, and you’ll see that your steady efforts do indeed have an impact. Then look forward, visualize what is to come, and commit yourself to making it happen.

Keep going, keep working steadily toward the goal you know you are approaching. Even on the days when you don’t see the goal materializing, you’re getting there nonetheless.
