We win half the battle when we make up our minds to take the world as we find it, including the thorns.

Well tended to

by Ralph Marston

A life that’s well tended to is a life with plenty of space for goodness. Take care of what you must, and you create ample opportunities to focus on what you care most about.

Tending to the mundane details can feel tedious. So it’s important to keep in mind what that diligence earns you.

It earns you the time, resources, strength, and flexibility to attend to joy, fulfillment, meaningful achievement, and love. It earns you confidence in your own skills, and habits that boost the effectiveness of all you do.

Dealing with life’s demands is rarely thrilling or glamorous. Yet the discipline it builds, and the foundation it lays, will serve you well in every endeavor.

You’re not really missing out on anything by attending to life’s humdrum necessities. You’re setting yourself up for saying yes to all kinds of great experiences.

Brush your teeth, do the dishes, pull the weeds, walk the dog, show up on time. Every act of diligence multiplies the good options available to you.
