Back on track

by Ralph Marston

Becoming distracted is not an excuse to remain distracted. Get yourself back in focus.

Whether you’ve been distracted by your own thoughts or something external, your best response is the same. Make a clean break from the distraction and resume doing what you intended to do.

There’s no need to punish yourself for slipping out of focus. Simply make the choice to restore that focus.

Indeed, a little distraction can be a good thing, so see it as such. Think of it as an opportunity to broaden your perspective.

But that perspective will be of no use if you remain distracted. So after a brief indulgence, do what’s necessary to get your intention back on track.

Distractions have compelling energy, so when you find yourself distracted go ahead and claim that energy. Then revive your focused effort and put the energy to good use.
